When you get stuck

A pause can be part of solving. Try these habits before deciding a puzzle is beyond you.

Restate the rule

Write what is allowed and what is not. In a word ladder, changing one letter does not mean rearranging the word. In a number square, check whether the rule applies to rows, columns, or both.

Separate facts from guesses

Use a pencil mark or a separate note for possibilities. A plausible guess should not quietly become a fact you use in every later step.

Test a small case

For a logic puzzle, try one placement and follow its consequences. A contradiction is useful: it eliminates that placement without requiring you to guess the entire answer.

Check your solution

Read every clue again. An answer is complete when it satisfies all the rules, not simply when the grid looks full.
